Yes, Your Customers Are Really Online

Mashable reported this week (via The Neilson Company) that Internet users are spending 68 hours per month online. Yes, 68 hours. That’s more than a full work week. For those of us in the communications business, I’m sure that number is doubled, if not tripled.

While this number might be astronomical to some and low to others, what really is baffling is the slow-butter-churning rate to which companies are embracing social media as a key driver of business.

As mentioned earlier this week, we conducted a poll with PRWeek that reported that 49 percent of companies polled do not have a specific approach regarding the use of social media on behalf of their brand.

We hear all the time about the barriers to adoption. The two biggest of which are time and resources. Both are understandable. However, the numbers don’t lie. The Neilson survey also reported that in addition to spending an average of 68 hours online, the average user visits nearly 2700 websites and averages 57 seconds per site.

Yes, that’s 2,700 websites per month. Are any of those 2,700 yours? You betcha.

What are you doing to attract and engage with your audiences online?
